Alignment of SC ELA Content Standards and Information-Media-Technology Literacy Skills

Home

The purpose of this alignment is to facilitate the integration of information, media, and technology literacy skills into everyday classroom activities. The skills statements are a combination of the national information literacy standards, Standards for the 21st Century Learner, published by the American Association of School Librarians (AASL), and the National Education Technology Standards for Students (NETS-S) published by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). The skills statements are available in the SC K-12 ICT Scope and Sequence.

This alignment is done within the parameters of The Simple Four, a problem-solving reseach model created for South Carolina. The steps of The Simple Four include Plan, Act, Organize, Reflect.

Teachers: Consult with the library media specialist on available resources and scheduling of the media center and/or technology lab. The library media specialist is available for collaborative planning and team-teaching.

Note The parenthetical statements in the Information-Media-Technology Standards column indicate the AASL, the ISTE standards, and the SC K-12 Internet Safety Standards. Ex. (1.1.1) – AASL; (3.a) – ISTE; (IS 2.1) - SC Internet Safety Standards. The parenthetical statements in the Examples of Instructional Activities/Strategies column indicate the ELA Standard Target Indicators.
